There was a time when if you wanted to see a movie you went to the theater to see it. If the movie was a popular one you waited in line for a good long time to be sure you could get in to see the movie before the theater was sold out. Some movie theaters where what we would consider high end because you dressed in your very best to go to them. It was always considered as a good place to take your date. The movie theater was THE place for entertainment for all ages.
When the television came into the house it changes all of that and introduced us to in-house entertainment. We sat around with the family or with friends and watched television. Then came the VCR and that introduced us to television movie rentals. We could choose what we wanted to watch. In the beginning television screens were small and they grew as the popularity of home entertainment grew. We now have screens that are as large if not larger than some home windows.
But change did not stop at how we obtain our movies nor does it stop at the size of the screen. We now have a room in our house that we reserve for the use of our home theater system. The theater has moved into the house. No longer do we have to dress in our Sunday best to go to a movie. We can have the same effect watching it at home in our pajamas. The introduction of the home theater has changed the way we view entertainment. Somewhere between the VCR and the home theater system people used movie projectors and screens to show their own movies of family, friends and vacations. This was a costly set up for what it was.
If you are one of the many that has opted for the home theater system you will have to make many decisions. You will have to learn about each component and what each one does, and about positioning your system to get the best results. When you have learned everything and feel comfortable about it, you are ready to turn that spare room in to a home theater.
